Fall is in the air and new doughnut flavors are flying out of the fryer at O Face Doughnuts downtown.
Head chef Crystal Whitford puts her spin on the signature fall flavors we wait for all year long with the introduction of two new seasonal doughnuts: Apple Pie and Pumpkin Cream, and specialty coffees including S’mores, Gingerbread, and Horchata lattes.
Drenched in a caramel glaze and crowned with a cheddar crisp, the Apple Pie doughnut ($2.25) satisfies like a slice of homemade apple pie. The saltiness of the cheddar cheese combined with the sweetness of the apple filling and caramel glaze is downright delightful. With my first bite, this quickly became a contender for my favorite flavor at O Face.
The Pumpkin Cream doughnut ($2.25) is generously filled with a pumpkin puree cream, bathed in a classic maple glaze and sprinkled with house-made pumpkin seed brittle. Imagine wrapping a slice of pumpkin pie in dough and deep-frying it. Oh, how I love fall.
The S’mores Latte ($5.50) is topped with marshmallow cream that is lovingly blasted with a torch then dusted with graham cracker crumble. The latte itself is rich, creamy, and chock full of intense coffee flavor while the toasted marshmallow and graham topping adds the ideal amount of sweetness.
Although not a seasonal addition, the Caramel Cronut ($1.75) is beyond worthy of mention. Shaped like a doughnut but with the buttery, layered flakiness of a croissant, the cronut is a magical hybrid of the pastry world.
Not to squash your hopes and dreams, but these flavors won’t be around forever, so get them while you can. O Face’s fall menu will be available through the beginning of December.
