Bite This Now: Fall Treats

By Andrea Harward

With fall comes cooler temperatures, stunning scenery, and the annual onslaught of all things pumpkin. For the pumpkin-lovers among us, there’s no better time of year. In honor of autumn, many of the downtown restaurants and bars are paying homage to the season by featuring limited-edition menu items and cocktails. Check out these downtown hotspots offering something special for customers this fall.

Flippin’ Good
505 Fremont Street

This burger joint’s seasonal milkshake features the ultimate fall vegetable. The Pumpkin Shake ($4.25) is made with vanilla ice cream, pumpkin pie filling, and topped with a dollop of whipped cream. For those of us who love our pumpkin pie drenched in whipped cream, this is the treat for you. One sip and you’ll be wishing pumpkin season lasted all year.

Publicus
1126 Fremont Street

Publicus makes even the healthiest dishes feel like comfort food. Their Coconut Sweet Potato Soup ($5) is ultra-smooth with just the right amount of coconut. Generously portioned and served in an oversized soup bowl, it’s drizzled with a mango chutney sauce and topped with fried sweet potato chips dusted with cinnamon and sugar.

Banger Brewing
450 Fremont Street, #135goo
702.456.2739

Banger Brewing is now pouring Fall Harvest, a refreshing pumpkin ale infused with locally sourced pear and apple cider from Gilcrease Orchard. At a manageable 4.3 percent ABV, Fall Harvest is easy to drink and expertly flavored with pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice. Order by the pint or fill your growler, Fall Harvest is the ultimate holiday brew for crisp, autumn days or cozy nights in front of the fire.

O Face Doughnuts
124 S 6th Street
702.476.3223

Coated in a caramel glaze and crowned with a cheddar crisp, the Apple Pie doughnut ($2.25) satisfies like a slice of homemade apple pie. The saltiness of the cheddar cheese crisp combined with the sweetness of the apple filling and caramel drizzle is the perfect pairing and makes this doughnut an essential fall dessert. O Face’s fall menu will be available through the start of December.

Carson Kitchen
124 S 6th St
702.473.9523

The Blood Orange and Root Salad ($12) is a robust, earthy compilation of seasonal greens and vegetables. Composed of celery leaf, turnips, salsify, blood orange, mandarin orange, and parsnip chips with a balsamic vinaigrette glaze, this salad is packed with unique flavors and textures. Perfect as a starter for the table but hearty enough to order alone, this limited edition menu item should certainly be experienced before it’s gone.
