What is something about you that most people don’t know?
Being both my parents are from Baton Rouge, La., my culinary skills are highly respected. Bon appétit!
What was your favorite subject in school?
Math and biology were both my favorites, but I’d have to say math. I understood math more naturally than a lot of other subjects.
What is your proudest accomplishment?
I’m most proud of being a business partner with Michael Jones and Curtis Anderson, and being extremely blessed to be able to create employment and render services to the community for over 20 years.
If someone were to make a movie about your life, who would you hope would play you?
I’ve had a very gratifying life, with that being said, I would like Ice Cube to be the director and Denzel Washington to act as me.
What are some of the different jobs that you have had in your life?
I was a courtesy clerk at Albertsons in the summer of 1986 and a hotel steward while in Barber College in 1988.
Do you have a favorite quote or saying that inspires you?
My favorite quote is, “It’s not about the blow, it’s about the recovery.” This was once said to me by an older gentleman who encouraged me while going through a challenging time in my life.
If you could try out any job for a day, what would you like to try?
I was born and raised in Las Vegas; I would like to be Mayor for a day, just to oversee what goes on in my city and improve it to the best of my ability.
Who was your childhood celebrity crush?
After watching Grease, Olivia Newton John took my breath away … first experience of a crush.
Which store would you choose to max out your credit card?
I’m a shop-for-a-deal kind a guy so I’d like to max my card out at a Ross or the Premium Outlet Mall.
What was the last concert you attended?
The last concert I attended was the West Coast All-stars. This venue consisted of Snoop Dogg, Too Short, Ice Cube, E40 and DJ Quik. Totally awesome.
In one sentence, what does the future of Downtown Las Vegas look like to you?
I’ve been a 15-year downtown business owner and I’ve seen astronomical progress, and it is constantly improving.
What is your favorite downtown venue?
My favorite venue other than A Cut Above the Rest Barbershop would definitely be The Market. This place has everything from A to Zinc.
